Heatwave Hits Tenerife and Canary Islands with Temperatures Reaching 37 Degrees
Tenerife is set to experience a heatwave on Monday, with temperatures soaring to 34 degrees Celsius in Santa Cruz and the western, southern, and eastern midlands of the island, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). Skies will be mostly clear or slightly cloudy, with some light dust in the atmosphere.
While the northern lowlands may see cloud cover early in the day, the rest of the island will enjoy clear skies. Minor temperature changes are expected along the northern, western, and southern coastlines, while moderate increases are forecast for inland areas, particularly on the eastern slopes of the metropolitan area.
In addition to the expected highs in Santa Cruz, areas in the north will exceed 30 degrees, especially in eastern coastal regions. Moderate north winds will sweep across the island, with strong gusts possible in the northeastern and southwestern corners during the night.
Across the Canary Islands, Monday will bring high temperatures as well, with AEMET predicting maximums of 37 degrees in southeast, south, and western Gran Canaria, and 34 degrees for Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Light dust will also be present at altitude.
Lanzarote will have mainly clear skies, but may experience some cloud cover, particularly in the north and west during the morning and evening. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly, reaching 32 to 34 degrees in interior and southern coastal areas.
Overall, the forecast for Fuerteventura indicates clear skies with temperatures remaining stable or climbing slightly, peaking at 34 degrees in the southern interior. Meanwhile, Gran Canaria will be the hottest island, with temperatures soaring to 37 degrees in varied locations while maintaining a mix of clear and cloudy skies. Moderate northern winds with strong intervals will persist throughout the day.
