Tenerife has invested €179,000 in new emergency trailers to enhance its response to adverse weather conditions. The Cabildo de Tenerife’s Department of Natural Resources, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies has delivered 19 trailers equipped specifically to deal with severe weather phenomena to local Civil Protection groups.
This investment aims to bolster the island’s emergency system by providing the Civil Protection groups with improved resources to act more effectively during adverse weather events. These trailers will supplement vehicles already provided to various municipal groups in previous years.
Rosa Dávila, President of the Cabildo de Tenerife, emphasised the importance of preparedness, stating, “The security of Tenerife is built on anticipation, planning, and response capability. This delivery enhances our Civil Protection groups’ efficiency and speed in responding to any adverse weather phenomena.”
Dávila noted that Tenerife often faces intense rain, strong winds, and coastal events, necessitating readiness. She added, “These trailers are not just an investment in equipment; they are an investment in safety, prevention, and protection for all citizens.”
The municipalities benefiting from the new equipment include Arafo, Candelaria, El Rosario, El Sauzal, Garachico, Granadilla, Güímar, Icod de los Vinos, La Matanza, La Orotava, La Victoria, Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz, La Laguna, San Miguel de Abona, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santa Úrsula, Tacoronte, and Tegueste. However, San Juan de la Rambla was excluded from this phase due to the later establishment of its Civil Protection group in June 2025.
Blanca Pérez, the Councillor for Natural Resources, noted that this initiative reflects the Cabildo’s commitment to strengthening the island’s emergency response system, particularly as adverse weather events become more frequent and severe.
Iván Martín, the island’s Director of Security and Emergencies, highlighted that the trailers are designed for quick and effective responses in emergencies, featuring equipment for handling intense rainfall, flooding, and supply outages.
The trailers are part of the Cabildo de Tenerife’s Civil Protection Action Strategy (2023-2030), which prioritises municipal support and acknowledges the critical role of volunteers in public safety. They are equipped with an electric generator, a submerged pump, a telescopic lighting mast, spark-resistant tools, and signaling beacons. All equipment is securely stored to prevent movement during transport.
