Canary Islands will start the week with soaring temperatures, clear skies, and some light dust in the upper atmosphere. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a rise in temperatures for Monday, especially in inland areas and the higher regions of the archipelago.
Gran Canaria will experience the hottest weather, with temperatures expected to hit 37 degrees in the southeast, south, and west, including the Tejeda basin. Other islands, including Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife, and La Gomera, will see highs of up to 34 degrees.
On Gran Canaria, temperatures will remain high overnight, with minimums around 26 to 27 degrees. Interior areas in the north and parts of the southeast and west coasts will reach between 32 and 34 degrees. However, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is expected to be cooler, with a minimum of 22 degrees and a maximum of 25 degrees. Skies will be generally clear, though the northern low-lying areas may experience some clouds during early morning and late evening.
In Lanzarote, mostly clear skies are anticipated, although coastal areas in the north and west may see some cloud cover at the start and end of the day. Temperatures will range from 22 to 34 degrees in the southern and eastern interior. Fuerteventura will also enjoy sunny weather, with highs of 34 degrees in the southern interior and the eastern coast, while Puerto del Rosario anticipates minimums of 22 degrees and maximums of 33 degrees. Winds will be from the north, moderate in both islands, and may pick up in the interior and southern regions.
Tenerife will see similar temperature rises, particularly in the interior and in mid-altitude regions, with Aemet predicting 34 degrees in the west, south, and east, including Santa Cruz. The capital is expected to have a minimum of 23 degrees and a maximum of 34 degrees, while the north will likely experience low clouds early and late in the day.
La Gomera will also feel the heat, particularly in the mid-altitude and high areas, reaching around 34 degrees. The north will have some cloud cover at the beginning and end of the day, but will largely enjoy sunny weather.
Overall, Monday in the Canary Islands will be marked by high temperatures, especially inland, with the northern coast remaining milder and occasionally cloudy.
