The Noble Hall of the Cabildo de Tenerife Hosts the Presentation of This Event Taking Place on 1st and 2nd October at the Hotel Escuela Santa Cruz

The Canary Islands Association for Sports Management (Acagede) has introduced the ninth edition of the Congress on Sports Management and Physical Activity in the Canary Islands this morning, at the Noble Hall of the Cabildo of Tenerife. This event has established itself as a key meeting point for professionals, institutions, and entities linked to the sports sector in the archipelago.

During the presentation held today at midday, institutional representatives and sector professionals highlighted the importance of this congress as a space for reflection, training, and experience exchange regarding the current challenges in sports management. Following the success of the last edition, which brought together over a hundred attendees and more than 25 speakers and experts, Acagede continues to promote a project that fosters knowledge generation and the creation of synergies among various stakeholders in the sports ecosystem.

The 9th Congress on Sports Management and Physical Activity in the Canary Islands will take place on 1st and 2nd October 2026 at the Santa Cruz School Hotel, under the theme “Sports Management in the Technological Era”.

The Importance of Digital Transformation and Technological Innovation

This new edition will focus on the impact of digital transformation and technological innovation on the planning, organisation, and development of sports policies and services. The congress aims to promote trend analysis, present successful case studies, and seek solutions that contribute to strengthening the Canary Islands sports sector.

Yolanda Moliné, the Sports Councillor for the Cabildo of Tenerife, began her address by “congratulating the Canary Islands Association for Sports Management for the extraordinary work it has been developing for over two decades”, before emphasising “its commitment to professionalisation, continuous training, and the creation of collaboration networks, significantly contributing to the strengthening of the sports sector in the Canary Islands”.

Moliné also noted that “the Acagede Congress is much more than just an event today. It is a meeting point where public administrations, universities, businesses, sports entities, researchers, and professionals converge with a common goal: to continue building a stronger, more innovative sports system that is better prepared to face future challenges”.

She expressed her belief that “this new edition will once again be a success in Tenerife and will help reinforce the role of the Canary Islands as a benchmark in sports management”.

Meanwhile, Ángel Sabroso, the Deputy Minister for Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, stated that “the Acagede Congress has established itself as a meeting and collaboration space for all agents that form part of the Canary Islands sports ecosystem, which provides a boost for the sector”.

He also recalled that “following the success of the edition held at ExpoDeca 2024, this new gathering in Tenerife allows us to continue strengthening alliances, sharing knowledge, and advancing the professionalisation of the sector”. He highlighted that “the Government of the Canary Islands remains committed to developing an increasingly solid, innovative sporting industry that generates opportunities for our islands”.

Studies on Sports Practice Habits

One of the key findings from the “Study on Sports Practice Habits in Tenerife 2025-2026” is the notable evolution in the incorporation of technology into sports. In 2025, 58.5% of the active population uses some technological resource during their sports practice, representing a significant increase of 31.8% compared to 2019.

Among these resources, the use of mobile phones and sports watches stands out as the primary technological tools for monitoring and controlling physical activity. Concurrently, there is a decrease in the use of traditional specific devices, which lose prominence to more versatile and accessible solutions. These data confirm the increasing digitalisation of sports on the island and the integration of technology as a regular element in everyday sports practice.

Additionally, Alicia Cebrián, the Sports Councillor for the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, thanked Acagede and the Government of the Canary Islands for choosing the capital as the venue for the Congress. “The Sports Service of the Santa Cruz City Council will always keep its doors open for events like this, which promote the development of the sports industry. We are particularly excited about this edition due to its emphasis on technological innovation and digital transformation, alongside knowledge and talent”.

Cebrián concluded her address with the hope of “continuing to collaborate in the future with Acagede, within an ecosystem where technology and sports coexist”.

The organisation emphasised the multidisciplinary nature of the congress, which will feature the participation of sports managers, technicians, public officials, industry companies, and professionals in physical activity, thus fostering the creation of new lines of collaboration.

Noemí Rodríguez, the president of Acagede, emphasised “the aim of evolving towards a congress that is increasingly useful for professionals, where not only ideas are shared but also tools and experiences applicable to daily routines. We are delighted with the support from public administrations, regular collaborators, and sponsors, and from this exciting starting point, we continue working over these months to ensure a successful event on 1st and 2nd October.”

This year’s edition will reinforce its practical and participatory character by incorporating workshops, dynamic workspaces, and new proposals aimed at the real application of knowledge. Furthermore, the programme will include awards for initiatives and professionals in the sports sector, along with multiple innovations.

During the presentation, the official opening of the registration period was also announced, with information available through Acagede’s communication channels.

The event, sponsored by the Cabildo of Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands through the Deputy Ministry of Physical Activity and Sports, and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, is primarily aimed at sports managers, public officials, industry companies, and professionals in physical activity and sports, thus consolidating a professional audience profile.

Acagede: A Symbol of Transformation, Connection, and Development

During the event, the role of Acagede as an active agent in the transformation of the sports industry was highlighted, being part of the Federation of Associations for Sports Management in Spain (FAGDE), which reinforces its positioning at the national level and its capacity to promote initiatives aligned with sector trends.

The Canary Islands Association for Sports Management (Acagede) has been working for over 20 years to foster professionalisation, continuous training, and the creation of meeting spaces among the various actors in the sports sector in the Canary Islands, promoting knowledge exchange and the development of projects of common interest.
