The agreement covers the squares of San Honorato, San Carmelo, Avenida de La Libertad and the one located behind the CEIP Ángeles Bermejo.
The Local Government Board of La Laguna City Council has recently awarded the service for drafting the basic and execution project for the renovation of the squares of San Honorato, San Carmelo (San Matías), Avenida de La Libertad (San Miguel de Chimisay), and the one situated behind CEIP Ángeles Bermejo (La Cuesta). The total budget allocated by the local corporation for this process exceeds €46,000.
Ángel Chinea, the Councillor for Works, Infrastructure and Accessibility, emphasised that “this milestone is of great importance for the citizens of these areas, as it concerns spaces that are central for recreation, coexistence, enjoyment, and community gatherings, without neglecting the aim of caring for the environment in these parts of the municipality.”
The councillor explained that this process has been divided into four lots, each with specific needs for the respective area. Among other initiatives, the works include optimising public lighting, telecommunications, sanitation, drainage, irrigation systems, repaving, and resurfacing roads, alongside landscaping tasks and enhancing traffic signage.
In all four projects, the execution period will be three months. This time includes a month to present a draft to the local residents, followed by two months for the final delivery of the work.
For the square of San Honorato (located between El Jazmín and San Honorato streets), the plans highlight the lack of urban furniture in relation to the area’s population density. Other areas for improvement, such as the insufficient height of the trees to withstand weather conditions, are also noted.
Concerning the square of San Carmelo, situated between San Andrés and San Carmelo streets, alternatives to enhance accessibility to this space will be explored, alongside adaptations to the nearest pedestrian crossings. The possibility of installing new urban furniture for children’s play and physical exercise will also be examined.
The renovation of the square on Avenida de La Libertad, located between Santa Berta, San Vicente streets, and the aforementioned avenue, aims to optimise the available space while preserving vegetation. New facilities will be made available for residents’ use and enjoyment, including inclusive elements.
Finally, the renovation of the square located behind CEIP Ángeles Bermejo, at the convergence of José Domínguez Dorta and Machado y Fiesco streets, will focus on better utilisation of the available space, incorporating new elements of urban furniture.
