Snow Returns to Cañadas del Teide Following Storm Emilia

The Emilia weather system has transformed the Cañadas del Teide into a stunning snowy landscape. This Saturday, Teide woke up to a blanket of snow that not only settled on the high altitudes but was also visible in areas such as Arico, Arafo, and Güímar. Last night, wind gusts exceeding 146 km/h were recorded at Izaña, with sub-zero temperatures in Teide National Park dropping to as low as -1.5 ºC, alongside sleet and ice layers of up to 5 cm in El Portillo. Rainfall exceeded 40 mm in municipalities such as Arico and El Rosario, as reported by the Cabildo de Tenerife.
Continued Snowfall
Cameras installed at the National Parador show that snow continues to fall in the Cañadas, lightly cloaking the summit shrubs.
Access Restrictions
Currently, the Cabildo de Tenerife has closed access to Teide National Park as a precaution, with the Insular Territorial Emergency Plan activated at maximum alert. Additionally, tracks, trails, and access points in Protected Natural Spaces and the TF-42 road in Garachico remain closed.
Furthermore, camping areas and recreational zones are off-limits, and public transport to Barranco de Masca and Punta de Teno has been suspended, along with any public gatherings organised by the Cabildo since 20:00 on Friday.
