Tenerife Celebrates LGTBIQA+ Pride at Festivalullo
Tenerife hosted Festivalullo on Saturday, celebrating music, talent, freedom, and diversity for International LGTBIQA+ Pride Day. Organised by the island’s Equality and Diversity department in collaboration with La Orotava Council, the event transformed Plaza del V Centenario into a vibrant meeting point for diversity and LGTBIQA+ rights.
The day kicked off with the traditional Pride March through La Orotava’s historic centre and a reading of the LGTBIQA+ Manifesto. Attendees included several local organisations, island residents, and dignitaries such as Rosa Dávila, president of the Tenerife Cabildo, and La Orotava’s mayor Francisco Linares.
Following the manifesto, Festivalullo featured performances from artists including Eva Harrington, Turista Sueca, and Samantha Hudson, who presented her show “Música para muñecas.” Comedian Jéssika Rojano hosted the evening, blending humour with the celebration.
Rosa Dávila expressed her joy at Tenerife’s strong commitment to Pride celebrations, highlighting the robust participation in the march and the festive atmosphere throughout the day. She pledged that the Cabildo will stand firm against hate speech and continue defending LGTBIQA+ rights.
Patricia León, director of Equality and Diversity, noted that the month-long Pride events have fostered awareness and safe spaces for the LGTBIQA+ community.
Mayor Francisco Linares emphasised La Orotava’s pride in hosting the island’s central Pride events, reinforcing the importance of visibility and advocating for the rights and diversity of the LGTBIQA+ community.
To ensure a safe and accessible celebration, the festival included a Rainbow Point offering support, information, and assistance in case of aggression, as well as an Orange Point equipped with resources to aid accessibility.
Festivalullo capped off a month of events across the island, which included concerts, theatre performances, book presentations, and exhibitions, all aimed at promoting a more inclusive and respectful Tenerife.
