The 2025 Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be centred around the theme ‘Secrets of Africa’ and is scheduled to take place from January 31 to March 9. The theme was chosen through an online voting process organized by the city’s Council and the Autonomous Body of Festivals and Recreational Activities.

The winning theme, ‘Secrets of Africa’, secured a total of 2,588 votes, representing 35.5% of popular support among other options. ‘Ancient Greece’ garnered 2,136 votes, ‘The Kingdom of Ice’ received 1,385 votes, and ‘The technological Japan’ obtained 1,181 votes.

Expressing his delight at the announcement of the chosen theme, Festival Councilor Javier Caraballero stated, “I am delighted to know the theme that will inspire creativity for all individuals and groups involved in our globally recognized festival. This will be the focus for the 2025 edition, on which we will commence work now.”

Caraballero emphasized the positive implications of the news, stating, “This is not only great news for carnival enthusiasts but also for the vibrancy and economic activity of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, marking the beginning of a new edition. The carnival is not only a festival of international tourist significance but also a key contributor to the cultural and entertainment industry.”

Voting took place through the website carnavaldetenerife.com from February 3 and concluded on the 12th. A total of 7,292 votes were cast. To ensure the integrity of the voting process and prevent duplicate votes, the computer system implemented a filter allowing only one vote per IP address to be validated.

The schedule for the upcoming Carnival edition will commence on Friday, January 31 with the Opening Ceremony, followed by the Announcement Parade on February 28, and concluding with Piñata Sunday on March 9.
