The San Benito Abad Church in La Laguna will host the opening event for the 2026 San Benito Abad Regional Festival on Wednesday, 1 July, at 7:30 PM. This highly anticipated ceremony marks the official start of celebrations in honour of the patron saint of farmers.
Chago Melián, a renowned artist closely tied to the musical and cultural traditions of the San Cristóbal de La Laguna coastline, will deliver the opening speech. His appointment highlights the festival’s tribute to the entire La Laguna community.
This year’s festival theme focuses on the island of Tenerife while celebrating the diverse neighbourhoods within San Cristóbal de La Laguna. It aims to showcase the rich cultural and human heritage of the event, which has been designated a National Tourist Interest.
The public event will gather local officials, representatives from folk groups, community associations, and numerous festival-goers, all welcoming a celebration that will highlight the enduring popular traditions of the Canary Islands.
