Inclusive Arts Festival Launches in Tenerife
The inaugural Planeta Fest will take place from 26 to 28 June, spanning venues in La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This festival will celebrate inclusive performing arts, featuring circus acts, dance, theatre, and participatory experiences for the community.
At a press conference held at the Casa de los Capitanes in La Laguna, local officials and festival organisers unveiled a dynamic programme aimed at transforming various spaces into cultural hubs.
Brian Rodríguez Wood, director of Planeta Fest, emphasised that the event aims to create an attractive cultural experience for diverse audiences, showcasing quality artistic performances. The festival will feature a mix of well-known national and international companies alongside local creators.
Adrián del Castillo, La Laguna’s Councillor for Culture, highlighted the importance of initiatives that enhance public spaces and celebrate diversity. He stated that this festival will help make culture accessible to everyone, reinforcing La Laguna’s commitment to inclusion.
Sara Mateos from the Fundación DISA stressed the need for cultural projects that encourage participation and unity. She mentioned their involvement in the festival, particularly the presence of PlaTEA, a company formed by individuals with autism that is set to perform.
The festival promises a packed schedule including contemporary circus performances, live music, and sensory experiences. Notable acts include Col·lectiu MUR, Danza Mobile, and the internationally acclaimed Besuch Brothers.
One of the festival’s highlights will be a concert by Agua del Chorro, a local band known for blending Canarian folk music with genres like reggae and cumbia, tailored for an inclusive audience.
Beyond performances, Planeta Fest will offer workshops and community activities aimed at fostering connections among artists and the public. Most activities will be free and held outdoors in the Plaza del Cristo in La Laguna.
Set to be fully accessible, the festival is supported by various organisations committed to inclusion, ensuring a rich cultural experience for all attendees.
