Tenerife to Host First Rural Products Fair
This Saturday, 27 June, the Casa del Vino in El Sauzal will launch the inaugural Rural Products Fair of Tenerife. The event celebrates local agricultural produce and showcases the efforts of farmers, cooperatives, and small businesses tied to the island’s primary sector.
Running from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the fair will feature around 20 producers and organisations. Organised by the Cabildo de Tenerife, its aim is to highlight locally sourced products and engage the public in Tenerife’s agricultural, livestock, fishing, and culinary diversity.
Visitors will have the chance to purchase items directly from the producers and discover local consumption initiatives that promote local production, cut out intermediaries, and support the local economy.
Insular Councillor for Primary Sector, Valentín González, emphasised that the fair serves not just as a market but also as a recognition of the daily hard work of local farmers, fishermen, and small agro-industrial firms.
González noted that buying Tenerife products supports local jobs, sustainability, and enhances the resilience of the primary sector.
The fair will particularly focus on “kilometre zero” products, which are produced close to where they are consumed. This approach fosters better connections between producers and consumers while preserving traditional agricultural practices.
Attendees can expect a wide variety of items, including tropical fruits, honey, cheeses, local preserves, artisanal baked goods, organic products, and locally roasted coffee. There will also be traditional cured meats, jams, oils, and local fishing products.
The event aims to boost visibility for cooperatives and small enterprises in the agro-food sector, particularly in rural areas where agriculture, livestock, and fishing remain significant to the local economy. Direct sales will allow producers to share insights into their food origins and unique product qualities.
