Moeve Foundation Hosts Volunteer Week in the Canary Islands
Moeve Foundation recently celebrated its Volunteer Week across Tenerife and Gran Canaria, featuring activities focused on environmental awareness, social inclusion, and environmental protection. This annual initiative coincides with World Environment Day, gathering 50 employees for five collaborative actions with local organisations, including Salud Mental Atelsam, Envera, and Afanes Canarias, alongside the CEIP Punta del Hidalgo school.
In Tenerife, volunteers helped create succulent terrariums in pots made from recycled bottles, guided by users from Salud Mental Atelsam. This activity aimed to promote recycling and connect nature with everyday spaces. Another event included an inclusive visit to Santa Cruz’s Palmetum with children with disabilities from Afanes Canarias and students from CEIP Punta Hidalgo, encouraging shared experiences and enriching moments.
In Gran Canaria, Moeve’s professionals participated in a workshop on making kokedamas, a type of planting using moss balls instead of pots, alongside adults with intellectual disabilities from Envera. This encounter allowed volunteers to learn about Envera’s work while fostering mutual understanding and companionship.
Belén Machado, head of Moeve Foundation in the Canary Islands, highlighted that Volunteer Week reflects Moeve’s commitment to society and the belief that sustainability thrives through collective efforts. The chosen activities helped volunteers engage with social entities and understand their daily realities while stressing the importance of environmental care and social inclusivity.
This event is part of Moeve Foundation’s ongoing efforts to stimulate social engagement among its team, promoting values such as cooperation and respect for the environment.
