La Laguna Allocates €53,000 to Support Disadvantaged Youth
The La Laguna City Council has approved a collaboration agreement with the Don Bosco Salesians Social Foundation to fund the “Pre-Labour School” project. This initiative aims to support young people who have prematurely left the educational system, helping them improve their training and job prospects.
The Pre-Labour School serves as a bridge for these young people, encouraging their educational and employment pathways while preventing social exclusion and conflict. Domingo Galván, the councillor for Promotion and Local Development, emphasised that the project provides a second chance for many youths in the municipality who require support to re-enter educational or job markets.
Galván stated, “We believe employment policies must adapt to the realities of individuals and offer specific solutions for those facing significant challenges. Investing in our youth is investing in La Laguna’s future.”
Fran Hernández, the councillor for Citizen Participation, stressed the goal of ensuring no young person falls behind due to early school departure. The initiative aims to create real opportunities and build pathways for social and labour inclusion.
Miguel Rojas, responsible for the Don Bosco School, highlighted the success of the Pre-Labour School in La Cuesta, noting its role in providing second chances for many youths to enhance their education and skills for a better future.
The signed agreement requires a nominative grant of €53,000 for the 2026 project, based in the La Candelaria neighbourhood of La Cuesta. It aims to boost motivation for education, address curricular gaps, develop socio-emotional skills, provide vocational guidance, and acquire job-related abilities. Additionally, it will promote respectful interactions, active participation, and safe environments for participants.
The Don Bosco Salesians Social Foundation has extensive experience in social and educational intervention, particularly with young people in vulnerable situations. This project aligns with the municipality’s economic and social development strategy aimed at improving job insertion capabilities and reinforcing community cohesion.
