In less than a week, Pope Leo XIV will visit Tenerife, with a schedule condensed into just six hours between La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The Pontiff will arrive from Gran Canaria and will conclude his apostolic visit to Spain on the island before returning to Rome in the afternoon.

Visit Schedule

Pope Leo XIV will depart at 8:30 hours from the airbase at Gando, Gran Canaria, heading to Tenerife Norte-Los Rodeos airport, where he is expected to arrive at 09:10 hours. This arrival will officially kick off the pope’s agenda in Tenerife, following his visit to Gran Canaria the previous day.

08:30 hours: Arrival at Tenerife Norte-Los Rodeos

From the airport, the convoy will move towards Las Raíces, in the municipality of La Laguna, where the first event of the morning will take place.

09:30 hours: Meeting with Migrants at Las Raíces

At 09:30 hours, Leo XIV will meet with migrants at the reception centre in Las Raíces. This event will focus on the migratory reality, one of the key themes of his visit to the Canary Islands.

At this point, the pontiff will deliver a greeting addressed to those present.

10:10 hours: Event at Plaza del Cristo de La Laguna

The next event will take place at 10:10 hours at Plaza del Cristo de La Laguna, where Leo XIV will participate in a gathering focused on the integration of migrants. The event is expected to last about 40 minutes.

Around 1,500 people are expected to participate, within a venue prepared for a larger capacity, accommodating up to 4,000 attendees. Among the participants will be representatives from organisations linked to reception, integration, and social support.

10:50 hours: Tour along Calle Viana and Stop at the Bishops’ Residence

At 10:50 hours, the Pope will travel by small vehicle through Calle Viana in La Laguna. This journey is expected to include an emotional encounter with sick and elderly individuals.

The route will conclude at the Bishops’ Residence in Tenerife, located on Calle San Agustín. There, Leo XIV will remain for about half an hour in the Episcopal Palace, a pause during which he will greet authorities and pastoral agents.

11:45 hours: Transfer to Santa Cruz and Tour in a Papamobile

At 11:45 hours, the papal convoy will depart from La Laguna towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife along the TF-5 motorway. The transfer will occur after passing through San Agustín, referencing the area of Avenida La Salle.

At the La Salle-San Ildefonso school, Leo XIV will board the papamobile to start a tour through various streets and notable areas of the Tenerife capital. The planned route will include Puente Galcerán, Plaza Militar, Plaza Weyler, Méndez Núñez, El Pilar, Villalba Hervás, Plaza de España, Avenida de Anaga, Bravo Murillo, and the port of Santa Cruz.

The central event of the day will be the Mass at Santa Cruz de Tenerife port, scheduled for 12:15 hours. This Eucharist will conclude the public agenda for the pontiff in Tenerife before the farewell ceremony at the airport.

The celebration will be a thanksgiving event and will be co-celebrated by the Bishop of Tenerife, who will deliver the final address to express gratitude for Leo XIV’s visit on behalf of the Spanish Church.

14:30 hours: Farewell at Los Rodeos

After the Mass, the agenda will conclude at the Tenerife Norte-Los Rodeos airport, where an official farewell ceremony will be held at 14:30 hours. Half an hour later, at 15:00 hours, the papal flight to Rome is scheduled to depart. Arrival at Fiumicino airport is set for 20:10 hours.

Traffic Restrictions in La Laguna and Santa Cruz

The visit of Pope Leo XIV will also necessitate dynamic road closures and traffic restrictions at various points in La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Friday, June 12. The most significant disruptions will be concentrated on the TF-5, particularly during the convoy’s movements between Tenerife Norte-Los Rodeos airport, La Laguna, and the Tenerife capital.

Between 08:45 and 09:30: Dynamic Closure near Guamasa

Between 08:45 and 09:30 hours, the TF-5 will experience dynamic closure towards Santa Cruz, from the area of Guamasa and the Tenerife Norte airport, approximately at kilometre 15, to exit 8A, which connects with TF-13 towards La Laguna Centre, Tegueste, Bajamar, and Punta del Hidalgo.

Later, between 09:30 and 11:45 hours, there will be another dynamic closure on the same road, heading towards Santa Cruz, between the area of La Laguna—around kilometre 9, near the access points of Padre Anchieta, Vía de Ronda, and Lora y Tamayo— and kilometre 0, at the entry to Santa Cruz. During this segment, accesses and entry points will be closed while the convoy passes.

Between 13:00 and 14:30: Dynamic Closures from Santa Cruz to Tenerife Norte Airport

After midday, between 13:00 and 14:30 hours, dynamic closures will be enacted on the TF-5, towards La Laguna, from kilometre 0, at the exit of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to exit 12, in the vicinity of Los Rodeos and the Tenerife Norte airport. This stretch affects the ascent from the capital to La Laguna, with possible disruptions at access points such as Taco, Las Chumberas, Guajara, Padre Anchieta, and San Benito.

Other Affected Roads in La Laguna Area

In addition to the TF-5, arrangements will affect several roads in the vicinity of La Laguna, La Esperanza, Tacoronte, and Acentejo.

08:45 to 10:00: Closure of Camino Asfaltado El Matadero and La Esperanza Road

Between 08:45 and 10:00 hours, the Camino Asfaltado El Matadero and TF-24, the La Esperanza road, will be affected between kilometres 1.3 and 0, with closures of entry points.

09:15 to 11:30: Closure of the Vía de Ronda

Between 09:15 and 11:30 hours, restrictions will reach the TF-13, known as the Vía de Ronda, between kilometres 0 and 4. The affected section runs from the junction with the TF-5, in the La Laguna area, to the Las Canteras area, towards Tegueste, Bajamar, and Punta del Hidalgo.
