Arona Local Police Act Against Unauthorised Street Vendors
Local police in Arona conducted 320 interventions related to street trading last year, with 231 in Las Américas and 89 in Los Cristianos, the areas with the highest tourist traffic. This initiative aims to maintain public order and support legitimate businesses.
The local government noted a significant increase in enforcement efforts during 2026. A notable recent operation took place along the “Golden Mile” in Las Américas, where police seized equipment associated with unlicensed street vending.
Héctor Reyes, the local councillor for police, emphasised that unauthorised street trading creates unfair competition for legitimate businesses and affects the overall image of tourist areas. He confirmed plans for increased police presence and targeted operations in high-incidence areas.
Reyes also stressed that the council’s goal is not only reactive but includes ongoing prevention and monitoring to ensure safety and proper commercial activity within the municipality.
The council plans to maintain specific operations in major tourist spots to bolster preventive measures against unauthorised sales, helping to preserve the quality of public spaces and support lawful commerce.
