Emergency Medical Service Launches in La Guaira Following Earthquakes
Starting today, an emergency medical service for general healthcare opens in La Guaira, Venezuela, to assist Canarians, their descendants, and others affected by the twin earthquakes on 24 June. The initiative, provided through the Unión Canaria de Venezuela, will offer essential healthcare and a support office for families needing guidance. Operating hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The service will include medical consultations and staff to help families navigate their needs, coordinating with the Government of Canarias’ representatives in the country. This launch is part of a three-month plan aimed at addressing urgent needs in the areas hardest hit by the tremors.
Additionally, the Government of Canarias has begun distributing the first 200 emergency aid packages, which include essential food, water, and medications. These supplies, sourced from donations by individuals and organisations, are being delivered to affected families via the Government’s delegation in Venezuela.
The plan also includes distributing 100 food parcels each in damaged areas of Caracas, such as El Paraíso and Catia, and La Guaira, covering regions like Tagoao and Caraballeda.
José Téllez, the director general of Emigration for the Government of Canarias, emphasised the importance of supporting affected families promptly and effectively. He noted the medical service in La Guaira would bolster urgent care in one of the hardest-hit regions, offering essential guidance to those in need.
Téllez also highlighted the vital role of Canarian organisations in Venezuela in identifying needs and facilitating aid distribution. He described the delegation as a logistical hub for managing assistance.
The Government of Canarias expresses gratitude to all contributors, including businesses and individuals, who enabled this initial aid distribution.
Currently, a network of Canarian entities and local offices is monitoring the situation in Venezuela. This support network helps identify urgent needs and organise resources to help families facing crises, particularly in La Guaira, Caracas, and Miranda.
The Canarian government continues to pledge its commitment to the local community and adapt its response to evolving needs on the ground.
