As July begins, many people are kicking off their summer holidays. Whether heading to the beach for a swim or exploring historical cities, it’s crucial to stay safe and prepared in the heat.
The Guardia Civil has issued safety advice for holidaymakers, highlighting that during excursions or sightseeing, bags may open more often than expected.
They warn of common distractions that can lead to theft, advising that travellers should maintain awareness in crowded areas. Key tips include avoiding physical clashes in crowds, being cautious of anyone claiming you’ve dropped something (which could be a distraction for theft), keeping bags closed and secure, and minimizing cash on hand.
The authorities stress that adopting simple habits can make a significant difference. They recommend always carrying water, keeping documentation in an inner pocket, avoiding placing mobile phones in back pockets, and ensuring zips are closed when navigating busy areas.
Staying vigilant is essential to prevent theft during these relaxing months. Travellers should also remember to bring items to stay cool in the summer heat.
