Fuel Discount Updated for Canary Islands
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 1 July – The Canary Islands Government has revised its temporary fuel discount rates, aimed at alleviating higher fuel costs for non-capital islands compared to their capital counterparts.
For the months of July, August, and September, La Gomera will see a discount of 20 pence per litre, while El Hierro and La Palma will receive 15 pence per litre. This information was confirmed in a recent announcement by the regional government.
Matilde Asián, the regional finance and European relations minister, noted that this initiative is included in the 2026 autonomous community budget. The quarterly adjustments reflect each island’s specific circumstances, aimed at offsetting detected additional costs over the preceding period.
The discount calculations are based on fuel price differences observed between non-capital islands and Gran Canaria and Tenerife from 1 April to 15 June. If the price of 95 octane petrol or diesel is at least five pence higher per litre than the average in the capital islands, the discount is activated, with rates varying between five and 30 pence per litre depending on the price differentials noted.
