Tenerife’s Cabildo has unveiled plans for a new Municipal Cooperation Programme for 2027-2031, set to allocate over €80 million to the island’s municipalities. This represents a €20 million increase from the previous plan. The initiative aims to enhance investment in local areas and facilitate essential infrastructure projects across Tenerife.
The programme was announced during a session of the Insular Council for Territorial Administration of Tenerife (Ciatt). A significant update includes a new, more equitable funding distribution model aimed particularly at supporting municipalities with lower economic capacities, enabling them to access more resources for local initiatives.
A key focus of the plan will be sanitation projects, designed to upgrade hydraulic infrastructures to meet European standards. The ultimate goal is to achieve zero waste discharge off Tenerife’s coasts by improving water treatment and management facilities in various municipalities.
Additionally, the Cabildo presented a report on the impact of the Canary Islands Development Fund (Fdcan) on Tenerife. The report highlighted that the Fdcan has facilitated the mobilisation of over €1.139 billion, funding 2,734 projects and nearly 5,000 initiatives across the island’s municipalities.
