Changes to Public Holidays in the Canary Islands for 2027
The Canary Islands’ Government has confirmed the official public holiday calendar for 2027. Among the key changes, the Feast of the Assumption, originally scheduled for 15 August, will be moved to Monday, 16 August, since the date falls on a Sunday.
The decree, approved by the Government Council, outlines twelve regional and island-specific holidays, allowing local councils to propose up to two additional holidays, bringing the total to a maximum of fourteen.
Included in the list of mandatory non-working days are all Sundays and the following holidays: New Year’s Day (1 January), Epiphany (6 January), Maundy Thursday (25 March), Good Friday (26 March), Labour Day (1 May), Canary Islands Day (30 May), the relocated Assumption (16 August), National Day (12 October), All Saints’ Day (1 November), Constitution Day (6 December), the Immaculate Conception (8 December), and Christmas Day (25 December).
Additionally, island-specific holidays are set for various dates: 2 February for Candelaria (Tenerife), 5 August for Our Lady of the Snows (La Palma), 8 September for Our Lady of the Pine (Gran Canaria), 15 September for Our Lady of the Volcanoes (Lanzarote and La Graciosa), 17 September for Our Lady of the Rock (Fuerteventura), 24 September for the Return of the Virgin of the Kings (El Hierro), and 4 October for Our Lady of Guadalupe (La Gomera).
Local councils will have one month from the decree’s publication in the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands to submit their applications for the two proposed local holidays.
