Canary Islands Approve Holiday Schedule for 2027
The Canary Islands government has approved the official holiday calendar for 2027. The decree, announced on Monday, outlines twelve regional and local public holidays and invites municipalities to propose two additional local holidays, bringing the total to a maximum of fourteen.
The plan, managed by Jéssica de León’s Department of Tourism and Employment, establishes all Sundays as non-working days, along with the following holidays: 1 January (New Year’s Day), 6 January (Epiphany), 25 March (Maundy Thursday), 26 March (Good Friday), 1 May (Labour Day), 30 May (Canary Islands Day), and 12 October (National Day of Spain). Notably, the Assumption of the Virgin, originally on 15 August, will be observed on 16 August due to it falling on a Sunday.
Additional holidays specific to the islands include 2 February (Candlemas in Tenerife), 5 August (Our Lady of the Snows in La Palma), 8 September (Our Lady of the Pine in Gran Canaria), 15 September (Our Lady of the Volcanoes in Lanzarote and La Graciosa), 17 September (Our Lady of the Peña in Fuerteventura), 24 September (The Virgin of the Kings in El Hierro), and 4 October (Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Gomera).
Local councils have one month from the publication of the decree in the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands to submit their proposals for local holidays, which will also be paid and non-recuperable.
