Resurfacing Works Underway on Avenida de Las Palmeras in La Laguna
The La Laguna Council has begun resurfacing Avenida de Las Palmeras, the main route in and out of the Finca España area, as of Monday, 29 June. The project, scheduled to continue until the end of this week, will also include improvements to signage and public furniture.
Angel Chinea, the councillor for Works, Infrastructure and Accessibility, explained that the resurfacing is necessary due to the high volume of traffic the road endures daily and the wear on its surface since the last repaving. He stated that this week will see not just resurfacing work, but also inspections of utilities, manhole covers, and other municipal service installations. This is to coordinate any urgent repairs with relevant companies, particularly Teidagua.
Additionally, through the Employment Plan, the council will repair and repaint public furniture in the area, particularly benches, and replace certain bins with newer models designed for easier waste collection. Coordination with TITSA will ensure that access to bus services remains available during the works, considering the mobility restrictions in some sections of this busy avenue.
Chinea confirmed that if all goes according to plan, the resurfacing will be completed by the end of this week. The next road slated for resurfacing will be Calle Barcelona.
The council appreciates the cooperation and understanding of local residents and businesses affected by the works and emphasises the importance of following the instructions of workers and the signage in place. Prior notification has been sent to residents regarding the reasons for the works, their duration, and any traffic diversions.
