Tenerife Invests €3.5 Million in Malpaso Waste Management Centre
The Cabildo of Tenerife is investing €3.5 million to transform the Malpaso waste transfer facility in Arona into a logistics centre. Key improvements include adding bulky waste treatment and shredding, establishing a clean point, and creating a service area for caravans.
The new caravan facility allows users to dispose of grey and black water, as well as refill their water tanks. This initiative will also be implemented at clean points across the island.
Upgrades involve constructing a covered structure for bulky waste processing, enhancing the leachate treatment system, and introducing Tenerife’s Sustainable branding throughout the complex.
The revamped facility aims to improve waste processing efficiency for seven municipalities including Arona, Adeje, and San Miguel de Abona while expanding the range of services offered at Malpaso.
Rosa Dávila, president of the Cabildo, highlighted the caravan service area and announced plans for similar installations at other clean points in the region. Blanca Pérez, the councillor for Natural Environment, described the Malpaso centre as an essential facility serving the island’s southwest and a model for future projects.
