Olga Cerpa and Mestisay to Debut New Album at Teatro Leal
Olga Cerpa and Mestisay will perform their new album, La costa de los cantares, at Teatro Leal on Thursday, 2 July, at 8:30 PM. This ambitious project explores the cultural and geographical identity of the Canary Islands.
After a four-year hiatus, the band has created songs with renewed depth that promise to transport audiences to the shores of the Atlantic. Drawing inspiration from the cultural exchanges between Canary Island fishermen and the African coastline, spanning from Guinea and Cape Verde to Senegal and Mauritania, Cerpa and Mestisay revive rhythms and stories from local folklore.
La costa de los cantares serves as a collection that emphasises human connection and encourages people to view the islands as a meeting point in the ocean rather than as isolated territories.
The album’s sound aims to evoke a range of emotions, reflecting the nostalgia of departure, the harshness of the sea, and joy, blending contemporary production with traditional elements.
The debut at Teatro Leal promises to be a unique sensory experience for fans, featuring cultural contributions from artists and musicians from Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea-Bissau, and Cape Verde.
