Tenerife to Host II Congress on Isolated Electrical Systems
The second edition of the ‘II Congress on Isolated Electrical Systems’ is set to take place in Tenerife on 15 and 16 October, following the inaugural event held in 2024.
The event was announced in Santa Cruz de Tenerife by Manuel Fernández, the regional Minister for Industry, alongside Jesús Artemio González, manager of the Official College of Industrial Engineers, and Yaiza Suárez, head of the Industrial Services department.
The congress will bring together international experts, network managers, academics, and public representatives, aiming to accelerate the development of a robust, secure, and decarbonised energy model for island territories. Fernández highlighted the importance of addressing Tenerife’s geographical isolation, stating that it necessitates leading-edge technical discussions as delays in improving the electrical system are no longer acceptable.
“This congress is focused not just on theoretical analysis but on delivering tangible solutions, advanced storage technologies, and infrastructure to reduce the risk of energy shortages,” he stated. Fernández also noted that the event aims to establish Tenerife as a key hub for knowledge in isolated systems, driving genuine energy transition to secure supply for residents and businesses.
González stressed the need for strong connections between expert knowledge and public policy, indicating that a significant topic for discussion will be the challenge of integrating renewable energies into a small, isolated network.
The congress will feature roundtables and presentations covering successful international case studies, such as renewable management in North American markets and geothermal applications, alongside discussions relevant to current issues affecting the Canary Islands, including the regulatory impact on energy sectors in peripheral territories.
