PAU Extraordinary Exams Begin in Tenerife
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 30 June (EUROPA PRESS) – The extraordinary session of the University Entrance Exams (PAU) kicked off today in the Canary Islands, starting with the Spanish Language and Literature II exam.
This year’s exam featured a cartoon by José Luis Padilla, known as Padylla, recipient of the Canary Islands Communication Award. The cartoon, rich in traditional Canary Islands vocabulary, included terms like ‘toletes’, ‘totorotas’, and ‘guanajos’.
Students had to analyse the communication elements present in the cartoon, its paratextual and non-verbal components, and write at least 200 words commenting on the immigration themes depicted. The cartoon criticises the lack of support for an immigration agreement proposed by the Canary Islands during last year’s conference of regional presidents.
In addition to the cartoon, the exam included questions on post-war social poetry, a specific poem by Luis Cernuda, and key features of one narrative or theatre work read during the school year.
The extraordinary PAU session runs until Thursday, with 1,139 students registered in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Of these, 881 are taking the general phase, while 458 are enrolled for the specific phase.
The first day covered common subjects: alongside Spanish Language II, students are also sitting foreign language exams and choosing between History of Spain and History of Philosophy. Specific and optional subjects will be examined on Wednesday and Thursday.
Provisional results will be posted online on 10 July, with final grades available on 17 July after a claims period. Successful candidates can apply for extraordinary pre-registration from 26 to 28 August.
