The San Joaquín football pitch in La Salud remains without electricity, despite Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council stating that necessary actions have been taken and the project is ongoing. This community facility is part of a municipal improvement plan presented in June with an investment exceeding €45,000.
In a response to a council meeting, the City Council clarified that the Sports Service has completed its responsibilities and the project is now pending validation by Endesa. Only after this approval can the Public Services Department formalise a new electricity supply contract, leaving no explicit date for when power will be restored.
The issue was raised following a written query from Socialist councillor Elena Mateo Morales, who sought clarification on the commitment to upgrade the facility. The Sports Service emphasised that progress is being made, although the timeline is dependent on external processes that currently prevent a definitive solution.
Background on this matter includes announcements made by the City Council on June 17, which outlined an investment of €41,879.14 for two new public toilets, along with €3,500 for painting and refurbishing benches and walls. As Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez explained at the time, these improvements aim to enhance local sports infrastructure, creating “more comfortable, accessible, and suitable” spaces for sports and community interaction.
Sports councillor Alicia Cebrián noted that the upgrades would improve the pitch’s functionality, appearance, and maintenance as part of a broader strategy for the city’s sports facilities. District councillor Zaida González highlighted San Joaquín’s vital role in promoting social and sporting activities within La Salud. However, the ongoing lack of electricity continues to restrict its use during the evenings, coinciding with the City Council’s promises for improvements that lack specific timelines.
