The Veranos del Taoro Festival Commences Today in Puerto de la Cruz for Its Fifth Edition

The Broadway diva Patti LuPone, a three-time Tony Award winner, supports the festival’s opening, where she will present her exclusive recital “Songs From a Hat” this Friday, 19th June, at 10 p.m.

Festival Launch

The International Veranos del Taoro Festival kicks off today, Thursday, 18th June, in the La Sortija Park of Puerto de la Cruz, marking the grand natural stage for the performing arts in the Canary Islands with the official opening of its fifth edition. This anniversary reinforces its outdoor theatre model, offering a top-tier programme that invigorates the cultural landscape of the archipelago.

Technical Tour and Support

Key figures in the cultural management of the islands conducted a technical tour of the festival’s main stages. Guided by the promoter and founder of Veranos del Taoro, Enrique Camacho, the tour received institutional backing from the President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila; the General Director of Cultural Innovation and Creative Industries of the Canary Government, Cristóbal de la Rosa; the Mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Leopoldo Afonso; Culture Councillor Desiré Díaz; and the Managing Director of Gesprotur, Ignacio Solana. This collaboration aims to promote the brand of the Canary Islands internationally. Notably, the international diva Patti LuPone also joined the tour, alongside actress Yaneli Hernández and dancer and choreographer Emiliana Battista.

Programme Highlights

Running from today until 20th June, the Veranos del Taoro festival features a diverse theatre and dance programme in the La Sortija Park. The Espacio Raíz will kick off its free contemporary dance programme this afternoon at 6:30 p.m. with Emiliana Battista, followed by Raquel Jara and Guadalupe Torres in the coming days. Meanwhile, at the Espacio Laurel de Indias, next to the Gran Hotel Taoro, major theatre performances start tonight with Anabel Alonso in *La mujer rota*. The Broadway star Patti LuPone will perform her recital tomorrow, Friday, and the programme will conclude on Saturday with Lola Herrera in *Camino a la Meca*. Additionally, Saturday morning will feature the event ‘Escenarios con Firma de Mujer’ and Laura Marrero’s ‘Proyecto Nido’ at the hotel facilities. Tickets are available at veranosdeltaoro.com.

Support and Sponsorship

The festival is institutionally supported by the Government of the Canary Islands—via Tourism of the Canary Islands—the Cabildo of Tenerife through Tenerife Tourism, and the Puerto de la Cruz City Council. Private sponsorship comes from the Gran Hotel Taoro as a strategic ally, as well as Binter, Coca-Cola, Heineken, Auto Laca Canarias, and Crea SGR, along with collaboration from various other organisations that enhance its cultural reach and impact within the community and the artistic sector.
