New Safety Measures at Tabaiba Baja
The safety works at the Tabaiba Baja cliffs, near Playa del Moro, have taken a significant step forward. Currently, the concrete spraying on the rock face is underway, a crucial action to reinforce the slope’s stability and minimise the risk of landslides. This work forms part of an emergency intervention led by the El Rosario City Council following a major rock fall that occurred last January.
During that incident, a large rock fell from the slope, prompting urgent action. The Mayor, Escolástico Gil, emphasised the importance of this initiative for the safety of both residents and visitors. He stated, “We are undertaking a complex yet necessary intervention to ensure the stability of the cliff and to mitigate risks in this heavily frequented coastal area.” He added, “From the very beginning, we have acted with responsibility and technical rigor to provide a definitive solution to this problem.”
Slope Remediation
Before commencing this new phase, vegetation clearance and slope remediation works were carried out. This involved the removal of unstable elements and the preparation of the surface for later application of the sprayed concrete. Additionally, the sealing of existing caves in the cliff has been completed using stones and concrete.
This initiative, alongside emergency works conducted on the Radazul breakwater, at Tabaiba pool, and on the Costa Caricia road due to the recent storm Therese, is financed through the City Council’s own funds as part of a budget modification of 2.8 million euros approved at the last council meeting. To facilitate the works, the City Council has implemented temporary parking restrictions in the area, as these are essential for manoeuvrability.
