SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife held a graduation ceremony on Thursday for nearly a hundred students benefiting from scholarships for Dual Baccalaureate programmes in the United States and Canada.
The event took place at the Tenerife Auditorium Adán Martín and was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, the Councillor for Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, as well as family members of the students and representatives from the education programmes in the United States and Canada.
Rosa Dávila emphasised “the effort, dedication, and resilience of 99 young people who have chosen to seize an extraordinary opportunity to broaden their academic and personal horizons”.
She further noted that the Cabildo understands “education is one of the most powerful tools for building a more prepared, competitive society with greater opportunities”.
For this reason, she said, “we continue to invest in programmes that allow our students to embark on international formative experiences which, in many cases, represent a turning point in their lives”.
The island president added that “language proficiency, adaptability to new environments, and coexisting with diverse cultures are increasingly sought-after skills in both academic and professional realms”.
“We want the youth of Tenerife to compete on equal terms anywhere in the world, and this programme significantly contributes to that goal,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Efraín Medina highlighted that “the International Dual Baccalaureate is one of the most transformative educational projects spearheaded by the Cabildo of Tenerife, as it combines academic training, language learning, and personal growth in a single experience”.
Additionally, the councillor pointed out that “over the past two years, students have faced significant academic challenges, learned to organise themselves, assume responsibilities, and navigate international contexts—skills that will benefit them for life and give them a competitive edge for their future academic and professional careers”.
OVER 1,600 APPLICATIONS
In fact, Medina added, “the high demand for these scholarships reflects the interest they evoke among families in Tenerife; receiving over 1,600 applications confirms that we are addressing a real need and that society values the effort the Cabildo makes to provide outstanding educational opportunities for our youth”.
The call for this promotion received 1,631 applications, reflecting the strong interest in the international education programmes promoted by the Cabildo of Tenerife.
Of these, 715 related to scholarships for English language immersion, 29 for French immersion, and 275 for the International Dual Baccalaureate scholarships.
These initiatives are part of the language immersion programme by the Education and Youth service, which commenced in the 2024 school year, aimed at enhancing the multilingual competence of students in Tenerife and fostering autonomy and decision-making skills.
Currently, the programme includes Language Immersion Scholarships and the Dual Baccalaureate, which consist of immersion for students in Year 10 in either English or French for one academic term or an entire school year, and for two academic years via an international dual baccalaureate for students in Year 12 and 13.
