SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Canary Islands Government will, for the first time, include students enrolled in higher artistic education at public institutions among those eligible for regional scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year.
This extension will allow students pursuing higher artistic education in public centres to access these scholarships. This measure responds to Article 4 of Law 1/2024, dated 7 June, which recognises the equivalence of these qualifications with university studies, as reported by the Ministry in a statement.
The Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín, stated that the intention is for “any student to be able to develop their educational project, irrespective of the path they choose.”
“The inclusion of higher artistic education in this call for applications recognises its value within higher education and continues to advance towards a support system that broadens opportunities and connects training, creation, and knowledge for the benefit of the Canary Islands,” Machín argued.
APPLICATION DETAILS
Among the updates in this call are an increase in the residence-related aid up to €3,000, an adjustment of income and wealth thresholds to widen access to public assistance, and the incorporation of these courses into the regional scholarship system.
These measures are part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen and modernise the regional scholarship and study aid system. During this period, they also highlight improvements such as the implementation of the second chance initiative, which offers a new pathway for students wishing to redirect their academic trajectory as outlined in the call, as well as the recognition of academic excellence through specific grants that reward effort and performance, among others.
