The facility is designed to ensure healthcare for the thousands expected to attend this significant event.
The Tenerife Trade Fair, specifically its Multi-Purpose Hall, will host a temporary field hospital established for the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the island. This extraordinary healthcare provision aims to ensure medical assistance for the thousands anticipated to attend this important occasion.
Healthcare Facilities
The advanced healthcare unit, coordinated by the Canary Islands Health Service, will be equipped to meet the event’s needs. It will include:
- Five critical care bays
- Five observation bays for less severe cases
- Ten spaces for mild cases
To support these operations, a team consisting of nine doctors, six nursing professionals, and six emergency medical technicians will provide care throughout the event. Additionally, there will be 16 emergency vehicles on standby to ensure a rapid and effective response to any incidents that may arise.
Command Centre
An Advanced Command Post will also be set up outside the venue, staffed by six professionals. This team will coordinate operational duties, medical assistance, and security related to the healthcare provision. The choice of the Tenerife Trade Fair for this infrastructure highlights the versatility and adaptability of these facilities to respond to situations requiring significant logistical and organisational capacity.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the venue demonstrated its suitability for hosting large-scale healthcare operations, becoming a strategic space to reinforce the island’s healthcare capabilities.
Collaboration for Safety
The establishment of this field hospital exemplifies the coordination among various administrations and organisations involved, aiming to guarantee the safety and healthcare of all participants in this internationally significant event for Tenerife.
