Emergency Hospital Set Up for Papal Visit in Tenerife
The Tenerife Fairground in Santa Cruz will host a field hospital this Friday due to the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the island. The facility will be set up in the Multi-Purpose Hall as part of the extraordinary health operation planned for a day anticipated to draw a large crowd.
The resource will function as an advanced medical post, coordinated by the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), and has been designed to ensure assistance to attendees during the scheduled events.
Critical Care, Observation, and Mild Patient Areas
The field hospital will feature a differentiated structure based on the severity of cases. It will comprise five boxes for critical patients, five observation boxes for less severe cases, and ten treatment areas for mild patients.
This organisation will enable the prioritisation of care based on clinical urgency, addressing both urgent situations and minor incidents that may occur during the day.
Healthcare Personnel and Emergency Vehicles
A team consisting of nine doctors, six nursing professionals, and six emergency technicians will be deployed to operate the facility.
The operation will also include 16 emergency vehicles, designed to facilitate transfers, support care around the fairground, and enhance response capacity for any medical needs.
Advanced Command Post Outdoors
An Advanced Command Post will be established outside the Tenerife Fairground, staffed by six professionals.
From this point, operational, medical, and security tasks linked to the health facility will be coordinated, as well as communication between the various resources mobilised.
Authorities advise attendees to follow security personnel instructions, stay hydrated, plan their travel, and arrive well in advance.
