Temporary Field Hospital Set Up for Pope’s Visit to Tenerife
The Tenerife Exhibition Centre in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host a temporary hospital this Friday to coincide with the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the island. The facility will be set up in the Multi-Purpose Hall as part of an extraordinary health operation planned for a day expected to attract a large number of attendees.
The resource will function as an advanced health post, coordinated by the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), and is designed to ensure medical assistance for participants during the scheduled events.
Facilities for Critical Care, Observation, and Minor Patients
The temporary hospital will feature a structured approach based on the severity of cases. It will include five critical care boxes, five observation boxes for less severe cases, and ten spaces for minor patients.
This organisation will allow for assistance to be prioritised based on clinical need, addressing both urgent situations and minor incidents that may arise throughout the day.
Medical Personnel and Emergency Vehicles
A team comprising nine doctors, six nursing professionals, and six emergency medical technicians will be deployed for the operation.
Additionally, the operation will include 16 emergency vehicles to facilitate transfers, support care around the Exhibition Centre, and enhance the capacity to respond to any medical needs.
Advanced Command Post Outside
An Advanced Command Post will be established outside the Tenerife Exhibition Centre, staffed by six professionals.
From this point, operational, medical, and security tasks related to the health facility will be coordinated, along with communication between the various resources mobilised.
Authorities recommend that attendees follow security personnel’s instructions, stay hydrated, plan their travels, and arrive well in advance.
