La Gomera Prepares for Papal Visit
Collaboration for the Pilgrimage
The Cabildo of La Gomera will assist the island’s parishes in the transportation of over 200 people participating in the Mass, presided over by Pope Leo XIV, in the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Friday, 12th June, as part of his visit to the Canary Islands.
The local authority will provide the necessary ground transport to facilitate the movement of the parish groups to Tenerife. Additionally, participants will receive a commemorative item as a memento of this significant day for both the Catholic community on the island and the archipelago.
Island-wide Pilgrimage
The involvement from La Gomera has been organised as an island-wide pilgrimage, coordinated by the various parish communities. Groups will depart early from their respective municipalities heading towards the port, gathering together faithful from different parts of La Gomera.
Youth representative Diego Chinea will also participate in the event on behalf of the Archpriesthood of La Gomera during the offering ceremony. Chinea will dress in the traditional attire of the island, featuring a white shirt, black trousers, and a black jacket edged in red, along with a black hat and red sash.
