Santa Cruz de Tenerife Prepares for Pope’s Visit with Giant Screen and Welcome Decorations

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council will install a large screen with a sound system in a location near the port esplanade. This is to allow those unable to access the main venue to follow the live Mass presided over by Pope Leo XIV on 12 June. The exact location of this setup is still awaiting technical confirmation, but the council aims to facilitate the experience for the thousands expected to attend during the pontiff’s visit.
Arrangements for Attendees
This initiative is part of the organisational measures designed by the City Council for the day, which anticipates a significant influx of visitors to the city. In addition to the screen, the council will distribute:
– 10,000 caps
– 10,000 wristbands
– 10,000 commemorative fans
– 50,000 bottles of water
These provisions aim to ensure the hydration of attendees.
Welcoming Atmosphere in the City
Santa Cruz will also feature a special atmosphere in honour of the visit. The City Council will install welcome banners displaying the image of Pope Leo XIV along the planned route. Large-format posters will be placed on the façade of the Town Hall and at one of the main city entrances. Furthermore, the decoration of the Flower Clock in García Sanabria Park and various municipal gardens will feature the colours representing the Vatican City.
Collaborative Coordination Among Authorities
The Santa Cruz City Council has confirmed that it is continuing to coordinate preparations with various administrations and organisations involved to ensure the smooth conduct of the visit. The day is expected to gather thousands of people, placing the capital of Tenerife at the centre of international attention due to the Pope’s Mass.
