La Victoria de Acentejo to Host Popular Obstacle Race
La Victoria de Acentejo is gearing up for the eighth edition of La Conquista, an obstacle race featuring over forty challenges through the municipality’s stunning natural surroundings. The event is set to take place on Sunday, 5 July, attracting around a thousand athletes from across Spain and beyond.
Mayor Juan Antonio García Abreu highlighted that the race has become a key fixture in the sporting calendar for both Spain and the Canary Islands, drawing many competitors annually. Notably, this year’s event boasts a near 50% female participation rate.
Jonathan Gutiérrez, the event’s coordinator and director, emphasised that La Conquista is more than just a race; it offers a shared experience of nature and athleticism, showcasing the region’s history and landscape. He noted that it continues to be part of Spain’s OCRA circuit, illustrating the event’s competitive nature and high standards.
The mayor also expressed gratitude to the volunteers, security forces, and local council departments that ensure the event runs smoothly.
Participants will compete in three categories: a 10-kilometre Elite race, and two others covering 5 and 10 kilometres which allow team participation. All entrants will receive a medal, with special awards for the top three finishers in each category.
The race will kick off at 8:30 AM from the Los Arroyos neighbourhood, with Elite runners starting first, followed by other categories at staggered intervals until 1:10 PM. The finish line will be at El Pinar park. Further details, including the route and regulations, can be found on the council’s website at deportes.lavictoriadeacentejo.es.
