The Cabildo de Tenerife has approved an extension of the tourism information office renewal programme for the INFOTEN network, covering the period from 2027 to 2031. This initiative will receive an investment of €3.6 million, aimed at transforming these spaces into more modern, accessible, and technology-driven visitor centres.
Funding will be split, with the Cabildo contributing €2.52 million and participating municipalities covering the remaining €1.08 million. Currently, the INFOTEN network, managed by Turismo de Tenerife, includes 36 tourism information offices, with plans to add seven more, bringing the total to 43 across the island.
The programme will enhance the architectural design of the offices, redesign their interiors, and integrate new technological solutions. Following a style manual developed by Turismo de Tenerife, the goal is to create a cohesive and recognisable image throughout the network.
Lope Afonso, the Cabildo’s Vice President and Tourism Councillor, explained that the aim is for these offices to evolve beyond mere information points. He highlighted the intention to make them visitor centres that offer a “more attractive, personalised, and immersive” experience from the very first contact with the destination.
Afonso emphasised that the first impression visitors get upon arriving in Tenerife is crucial. He believes these spaces should express an image associated with innovation, quality, and the island’s identity.
The Vice President underscored the importance of collaborating with local councils to implement this renewal programme, stating that such cooperation would deliver a high-quality, uniform tourism network across the island.
With this extension, the Cabildo aims to enhance Tenerife’s tourist competitiveness by improving the image, functionality, and visitor service capabilities of the INFOTEN network. They assert that the renewal will help adapt these offices to meet new visitor demands and advance towards a tourism model focused on excellence and quality.
