Emergency Medical Service Launched in La Guaira After Earthquakes
From Thursday, the Canary Islands Government will introduce a general medical emergency service in La Guaira, Venezuela. This initiative aims to support Canarians, their descendants, and those affected by the double earthquake that struck on June 24.
Operated through the Union Canaria de Venezuela, the service will provide urgent basic healthcare and information at the Canary Islands Government’s decentralised office in La Guaira. The service will be open from 8am to 5pm, staffed with medical personnel and support staff to assist local families and coordinate with the Canary Islands’ local delegation.
This move is part of a three-month action plan designed to address urgent needs, particularly in the most affected areas. The government is also distributing 200 emergency aid packages containing essential food, water, and medication, funded by donations from individuals and companies.
Aid will be delivered to specific regions, including areas of Caracas and La Guaira, such as El Paraíso and Catia. José Téllez, the Director General of Emigration for the Canary Islands, emphasised the need to assist affected families swiftly and effectively.
Téllez praised the essential work of local Canary Islands entities in Venezuela for their role in identifying and organising aid efforts. He noted that the delegation in Venezuela has become a vital logistics centre for distributing assistance amidst the current emergency.
The Canary Islands Government expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the emergency aid distribution, highlighting donations from various organisations and individuals who have supported the affected families.
The government is committed to monitoring the evolving situation in Venezuela in cooperation with local entities, ensuring that new actions align with the needs arising on the ground.
