Tenerife has implemented emergency fire prevention measures due to a high risk of forest fires. The announcement, made by the island’s government, comes following adverse weather conditions.
The regulations took effect on Tuesday, 30 June, at 07:00 and will remain in place until the alert is lifted. Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, urged the public to exercise caution. “We are in a particularly delicate situation, and any carelessness could have severe consequences for Tenerife,” she stated.
Dávila highlighted the importance of prevention, stating, “Protecting our forests means protecting Tenerife, our natural heritage, and public safety. We ask for maximum prudence and community cooperation.”
As part of the restrictions at grade 1 level, outdoor fires, including barbecues, are banned. Smoking is also prohibited in recreational areas, campsites, and along public roads in risk zones. Fireworks displays have been suspended, and the use of tools that may produce sparks is forbidden.
However, access to main roads and private properties is allowed. Residents may still bike or ride horses on forest paths, but the Cabildo advises limiting visits to these areas during the alert.
The administration encourages citizens to avoid entering forested areas unless necessary, taking precautions to prevent any activities that could spark a fire. The Cabildo is closely monitoring the weather and risk levels, coordinating with emergency services to ensure public safety and protect the environment.
