St. Pedro Unveils New EP ‘Cancionero’ Celebrating 2000s Pop Hits in Tropical Style
St. Pedro, the Tenerife-based singer, has launched his latest EP, ‘Cancionero’, which features six reimagined hits from 2000s pop infused with the essence of traditional Canarian orchestras. This summer, he will perform the collection across various towns in the Canary Islands, evoking musical memories with a tropical twist.
The project reinvents well-known songs, blending genres like salsa, merengue, bachata, and R&B to create fresh interpretations. In an interview with Europa Press, St. Pedro shared the personal challenge involved in revamping songs that remind him of his childhood and connection to music. He aims to provide a unique experience, presenting tracks that “nobody has covered in this style before.”
Among the notable transformations are ‘Sin Miedo A Nada’ by Álex Ubago into a salsa number, and a fresh take on Juanes’ ‘A Dios Le Pido’. The EP also includes reworkings of Pablo Alborán’s ‘Solamente tú’ and Alejandro Fernández’s ‘Me dediqué a perderte’, as well as an R&B-influenced rendition of ‘Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti’ and ‘Aléjate de Mí’.
“All the songs from that era are special to me—they’re etched in my subconscious,” said St. Pedro, who looks forward to the communal energy of live performances, inviting audiences to sing along to these familiar tunes.
St. Pedro, whose real name is Pedro Hernández, rose to fame through the singing competition ‘La Voz’ and participated in Benidorm Fest 2024, aiming to represent Spain at Eurovision. Reflecting on his journey, he expresses gratitude for the growing support from fans. “The only change is that now there are people who appreciate my music,” he noted.
Looking ahead, St. Pedro is already working on a second album, following his previous release ‘Esta vida que elegí’. Meanwhile, he plans to showcase his new ‘tropical’ sound with ‘Cancionero’ this summer, focusing on enjoying the creative process without pressure.
