Canary Islands Government Forms Committee to Monitor Venezuela Situation
The Canary Islands Government has established a committee to assess the impact of recent devastating earthquakes in Venezuela on the local Canary community. Over 30 fatalities have been confirmed following the quakes, which struck the country in quick succession.
Afonso Cabello, the Government’s spokesperson, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic events. He stated, “We feel pain and sadness at the disastrous consequences of the earthquakes,” and emphasized the commitment of the Canary Islands to support their fellow nationals and their families living in Venezuela.
In light of the crisis, President Fernando Clavijo and Vice-President Manuel Domínguez have cancelled their scheduled engagements to directly monitor the situation and liaise with Canary entities and the Spanish Consulate in Venezuela.
Cabello added, “We will form a group to ensure immediate monitoring and close collaboration with all entities. The Canary Islands Government wishes to convey its solidarity and affection to Venezuela during this difficult time.”
