Canary Islands Hotels to Feature Menu Inspired by Pope’s Visit
Hotels under the Hotels School of the Canary Islands (Hecansa), a public company linked to the region’s Tourism and Employment Department, will temporarily offer a selection of dishes inspired by a team of 15 professionals and students who served a menu to Pope Leo XIV during his recent visit to Gran Canaria.
The menu includes a watercress cream from Firgas with zucchini cannelloni filled with cheese and gofio from Hermigua; pressed black pig wrapped in collard greens, served with baby courgettes and chicharrón on carrot hummus; and a creamy chocolate dessert with various textures accompanied by Gran Canaria orange confit. The meal will also include a glass of wine, water, and coffee.
This exclusive dining experience will take place on 30 June and 1 July at the Hotel Escuela Santa Brígida in Gran Canaria, and on 7 and 8 July at the Hotel Escuela Santa Cruz in Tenerife. Priced at €25 per person, advance booking is required.
Jessica de León, the Tourism and Employment Councillor, praised Hecansa’s team for their “magnificent work” during the Pope’s visit, stating that the initiative allows restaurant-goers to appreciate both the culinary creations and the effort behind them.
Paola Plasencia, Hecansa’s CEO, added that the initiative showcased the team’s professionalism and coordination, emphasising the collective effort involved in crafting the menus and ensuring smooth service.
This venture reflects Hecansa’s commitment to showcase the culinary talent that rose to the occasion during a significant logistical and gastronomic challenge.
