Former PSOE MP Faces Eight Years in Prison for Corruption
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24 June – The prosecution has requested an eight-year prison sentence for former PSOE MP Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo, known as ‘Tito Berni’, over alleged corruption and organised crime linked to the ‘Mediador Case’.
The same sentence is sought for his nephew, Taishet Fuentes, the former Director General of Livestock for the Canary Islands, on similar charges.
Additionally, a 13-year prison term has been proposed for mediator Marco Antonio Navarro Tacoronte for various offences, including influence peddling and fraud within the main investigation of the ‘Mediador Case’.
The prosecution has approached the Court of Instruction Number 4 in Santa Cruz to initiate a trial aimed at unveiling a scheme that allegedly sought to bribe primary sector and renewable energy businesses in the Canary Islands between 2020 and 2021 for preferential treatment, public contract awards, and the cancellation of sanctions in exchange for money, gifts, and prostitution services.
