A medical team from the Canary Island Emergency Service (SUC) successfully assisted in an out-of-hospital birth in a home in Los Realejos, Tenerife. The team provided care to both the mother and newborn before their transfer to the hospital.
The emergency call was made early in the morning by the baby’s father, who stayed on the line with the SUC coordinator while they assessed the situation. During this initial contact, the medical professional evaluated the health of the mother and the newborn, guiding the father on how to proceed until help arrived.
After confirming that both were stable, an advanced life support ambulance was dispatched to the home to provide in-person assistance.
The team, which included a doctor, a nurse, and an emergency technician, checked the mother and baby’s clinical conditions. Once both were confirmed to be in good health, they completed the delivery process by safely expelling the placenta. The father actively participated by cutting the umbilical cord.
After the home assistance, the ambulance crew prepared the mother and baby for their safe transfer to the hospital, coordinating with the obstetrics, midwifery, and gynaecology departments to ensure specialised care upon arrival. Both were transported securely, having been confirmed as clinically stable by the medical team.
