Tacoronte City Council Unlocks Five Housing Developments
The Tacoronte City Council has unlocked five urban developments that will add nearly 200 private housing units. These locations are situated in the town centre, Agua García, La Caridad, and along the Guayonje road. The projects had previously been stalled for various reasons, leaving skeletal structures in these areas of Tacoronte. Some of them date back to the 2008 housing bubble crisis, while others originate from the 1990s.
Municipal Government Takes Action
Currently, the municipal government (PSOE, PP and CC) is taking the necessary steps to facilitate interested investors in building housing and reclaiming public spaces such as streets, squares, gardens, and other facilities in Tacoronte. To this end, the local administration is aiding developers in processing applications and exploring viable approaches that comply with regulations. “In some cases, allowing phased development is essential for managing the construction process,” acknowledges Urban Planning Councillor Tarsis Morales (PSOE).

Details of the Developments
The total number of housing units amounts to 190. The development situated between El Durazno and Teobaldo Power streets includes 23 unfinished flats in this busy area between Santa Catalina and Hoya Machado Urban Park. This project aims to improve pavements, public services, gardens, and urban furniture, along with widening Teobaldo Power street and completing the road known as Los Maestros, incorporating recreational areas connected to the green spaces of Hoya Machado Park. Another notable project is Carril de Billete in Agua García, which comprises 42 homes that have been stalled for over two decades. Also receiving the go-ahead is the second phase of the urbanisation project on Guayonje road, referred to as La Dehesa III, to finish pending works in the Karimar development and include 22 new terraced houses planned for La Caridad street.
Timeline and Investment
Morales explains that the five developments will not be unlocked simultaneously as “they are not all at the same administrative stage.” He warns, “These are significant investments, amounting to millions of euros in some cases. The private developer is making the investment, but the City Council requires guarantees. If there is a breach, we can respond and take necessary actions.” Regarding the estimated time for construction and marketing, he mentioned a timeframe of three to four years. “It does not mean that the nearly 200 homes will be available immediately. The administrative unblocking allows the projects to restart, but further phases will follow. Once completed, we will enhance the city and eliminate areas of landscape degradation that have persisted for too long,” he concludes.
