Man Sentenced for Sexual Assault of 11-Year-Old Girl
A man accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl, whom he met through a social network, has been sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to pay €6,000 in compensation and a €4,000 fine.
Initial Prosecution Demands
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife initially sought a 13-year prison term and €2,000 for the emotional damages suffered by the victim. However, during a closed court hearing, the accused agreed to the mentioned sentence.
Details of the Offence
In 2022, the defendant admitted to contacting the victim in November 2022 via a social network. Despite knowing her age, they exchanged phone numbers. The accused gained her trust by promising financial rewards and engaging in sexually explicit conversations. As a result, he convinced the girl to send him pornographic images of herself and others. He ultimately managed to engage in full sexual relations with her in his vehicle on at least three occasions between February and April 2023.
Impact on the Victim
Consequently, the young girl now suffers from anxiety and depression after deciding to disclose the events. The court considered the mitigating factor of the defendant having deposited €1,900 prior to the trial as part of the damages.
Restrictions and Prohibitions
In addition to the prison sentence, he is prohibited from approaching or communicating with the girl for 13 years and will remain under supervised release for another eight years. Furthermore, he will be barred from any activities or professions involving contact with minors for 14 years, starting from the day he is released from prison.
