TITSA to Implement Special Public Transport Service for Pope Leo XIV’s Visit to Tenerife
TITSA will launch a special public transport initiative on the occasion of the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Tenerife. The company will enhance its services to assist thousands of attendees expected at the events throughout the day.
The company will double its usual capacity during the early morning hours, a period expected to see significant demand. Specifically, the service will increase from 5,000 planned spaces to over 10,000 available spaces between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m.
The aim of this operation is to provide an alternative to private vehicles during a day characterised by traffic restrictions, road closures, and a high influx of people in the metropolitan area.
Reinforced Lines from La Laguna, the North and the South
The special provision includes reinforcements on the main connections to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, particularly on the lines connecting the metropolitan area with the capital, as well as the northern and southern corridors of the island.
From La Laguna, TITSA will bolster lines 014, 015, and 020. In the north of Tenerife, special services will be activated on lines 100, 102, and 108. In the south, the service frequency on lines 110, 112, and 114 will be increased.
Flat Fare of One Euro for Buses and Trams
The service planning also includes operational adaptations on certain lines to balance public mobility with the security measures in place during the day.
Additionally, users without a Ten+ card or resident pass will be able to use the service at a flat fare of one euro per trip, valid for both buses and trams.
Shuttle Service Between the Interchange and the North Dock
Among the planned mobility measures is a special shuttle that will connect the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Interchange with the North Dock.
TITSA also expects various reinforcements and temporary diversions on several urban lines due to the expected traffic disruptions.
Extensive Human Resource Deployment
To ensure the service operates smoothly, TITSA will deploy a team comprising 40 drivers, 10 operations supervisors, 6 workshop professionals, and 11 monitors at the Santa Cruz Interchange.
Eulalia García, the councillor for Mobility in the Cabildo of Tenerife, emphasised that an extraordinary operation has been designed to ensure that individuals can travel safely and comfortably. She noted that the planning aims to minimise traffic disruptions and encourage the use of public transport on this significant day for the island.
TITSA advises users to plan their journeys in advance and check the updated information regarding timetables, routes, affected stops, and potential incidents via their official channels.
