Closure of Parks for Pope’s Visit in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
The Palmetum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the César Manrique Maritime Park will be closed to the public this Friday, 12 June, due to the visit of Pope León XIV to the capital of Tenerife. According to a statement from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, the closure will only affect this day and is in response to “organisational, security, and mobility measures” planned for the event.
### Strategic Locations and Expected Crowds
The city council explains that both facilities are situated in a “strategic area” within the scope of the visit. As a result, this decision has been made in light of the “significant number of people” expected to travel to Santa Cruz.
### Changes to Other Municipal Services
The council adds that the Pope’s visit will necessitate changes to other municipal services. The statement notes that the District Youth programme has “postponed the activities planned for this Friday.” Additionally, the Municipal School of Music will “suspend scheduled classes.”
However, the main municipal exhibition spaces will “continue their activities as usual,” with places such as the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts, the Masonic Temple, and various municipal halls remaining “open to the public at their usual times.”
### Library Services and Accessibility
With regard to libraries, the Central Municipal Library, located in TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, will keep “the study room service open during its usual hours,” although library services will only be available from 8:00 to 14:00. Furthermore, the Añaza and Ofra municipal libraries will “operate normally from 9:00 to 20:00.”
Likewise, the Biblioguagua and Biblioexpress services will be “suspended for the entirety of the day.”
The council also informs that a designated area for people with reduced mobility will be set up in front of the Palace of the General Captaincy of the Canary Islands, specifically at the bus stop.
