True to the style that has defined his career, Luis Piedrahita presents a show where the observation of reality, verbal wit, and the ability to discover the most surprising aspects of everyday situations drive the comedy. Through a succession of reflections, stories, and insights, the artist invites the audience to question certainties and discover new perspectives on issues that are part of daily life.
Themes Explored in the Show
‘Apocalyptically Correct’ traverses diverse topics such as freedom, fear, hope, astrophysics, horoscopes, and the contradictions of contemporary society. The show transitions effortlessly between seemingly profound questions and common everyday elements, constructing a humorous universe that accommodates both monumental inquiries and the most insignificant details.
His unique approach to observing the world translates into intelligent, elegant, and relatable humour that connects with audiences of various generations. The staging unfolds as a series of ideas, images, and unexpected associations, using irony and absurdity as tools to explore reality from a different perspective.
Incorporation of Illusionism
The show also incorporates elements of illusionism, a discipline closely linked to the artist’s career, adding an additional layer of surprise. The result is a theatrical experience that blends entertainment, creativity, and reflection, solidifying the versatility of a creator who has built an extensive career in television, literature, theatre, and magic.
Collective La Cofradía presents ‘Danza en breve’
Additionally, the Leal Theatre will host ‘Carmen,’ a production by Collective La Cofradía, on Thursday, 4th June at 19:00 in its Chamber Hall. This work revolves around the devotion to the Virgin of Carmen, exploring the relationship between island communities, the sea, and the presence of religious symbols within the oceanic imagination.
The interdisciplinary proposal by dancer and choreographer Paula Quintana and visual artist Héctor Gardez is framed as a dramaturgy intertwining dance, autoethnographic language, audiovisual elements, and performance. The show will shape narratives addressing the role of the islands as a territory of resistance against continental hegemony, delving into concepts such as faith and miracles beyond their religious connotations. There will be a discussion with the artists following the performance.
This show is part of the ‘Danza en breve’ cycle, initiated by the La Laguna City Council through the Autonomous Organisation of Musical Activities (OAAM) to promote the work of creators in this artistic discipline, and is part of the Island Connect EU 2025 programme.
